Elisapee Sheutiapik was elected in the general election held on October 30, 2017, to represent the constituency of Iqaluit-Sinaa in the 5th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.

Ms. Sheutiapik was elected to serve on the Executive Council during the November 17, 2017, proceedings of the Nunavut Leadership Forum. Minister Sheutiapik was formally sworn into office on November 21, 2017. She serves as the Government House Leader, Minister of Economic Development and Transportation, Minister of Environment, Minister of Energy, Minister responsible for the Nunavut Business Credit Corporation, Minister responsible for the Nunavut Development Corporation and Minister responsible for Mines.

Ms. Sheutiapik has held a number of professional positions in her career in both the public and private sectors. She is a well-known entrepreneur and the owner of the Grind and Brew Café in Iqaluit.

Ms. Sheutiapik served as the Mayor of Iqaluit, Nunavut’s capital city, from 2003 to 2010. She is a past President of the Nunavut Association of Municipalities, a past President of Pauktuutit, the national representative organization for Inuit women in Canada, a past President of the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council, a past member of the board of directors of Northwestel and a past member of the board of directors of the Qulliq Energy Corporation.

Ms. Sheutiapik has been an active volunteer with the Arctic Winter Games. Ms. Sheutiapik is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and was the Economic Club of Canada’s 2014 Voice of Hope Award recipient for her work in addressing domestic violence.

Ms. Sheutiapik’s personal interests include pin collecting, hockey and Inuit art.

Ms. Sheutiapik is the proud mother of Iola and James. Her partner is Mr. Brian Twerdin.
