Pat Angnakak was re-elected in the general election held on October 30, 2017, to represent the constituency of Iqaluit-Niaqunnguu in the 5th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.

Ms. Angnakak was elected to serve on the Executive Council during the November 17, 2017, proceedings of the Nunavut Leadership Forum. Minister Angnakak was formally sworn into office on November 21, 2017. She serves as the Minister of Health, Minister responsible for Suicide Prevention and Minister responsible for Seniors’ Advocate.

Ms. Angnakak previously served in the 4th Legislative Assembly. Ms. Angnakak served as the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Independent Officers and Other Entities and a member of the Management and Services Board.

Ms. Angnakak was raised in the Nunavut communities of Cape Dorset and Pangnirtung. Ms. Angnakak has lived in Iqaluit for approximately 30 years. Ms. Angnakak is a graduate of Nunavut Arctic College and is bilingual in English and Inuktitut.

Ms. Angnakak, who served as Nunavut’s first Deputy Commissioner, has held a number of senior positions during her career. Ms. Angnakak has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kakivak Association, Director of Corporate Priorities for the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Executive and Intergovernmental Affairs, Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for a department of the Government of Canada, and Executive Assistant to a number of Cabinet Ministers.

Ms. Angnakak has served on a number of boards and agencies, including the Nunavut Surface Rights Tribunal and the Iqaluit District Education Authority.

Ms. Angnakak has been an active community volunteer with Iqaluit’s Toonik Tyme Committee, the Anglican Church, and is currently a board member of the Sailivik Society.

Pat and Archie Angnakak have three adult children: Sharon, Matthew and Michael, and four grandchildren: Maria, Ava, Isaiah and Liam. Ms. Angnakak’s personal interests include sewing, cooking and camping.
