Simeon Mikkungwak was elected in the general election held on October 28, 2013, to represent the constituency of Baker Lake in the 4th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.
Prior to his election, Mr. Mikkungwak was employed as a Lands Inspector with the Kivalliq Inuit Association. Mr. Mikkungwak has held a number of positions during his career, including Regional Alcohol and Drug Specialist with the territorial Department of Health and Social Services and Legal Interpreter at the territorial court level.
Mr. Mikkungwak is a graduate of Nunavut Arctic College. Mr. Mikkungwak has taken a number of professional courses in the fields of hazardous waste operations, emergency response, firefighting, addictions counselling and suicide prevention.
Mr. Mikkungwak has previously served as Deputy Mayor of Baker Lake, a member of the Municipal Council of Baker Lake, Secretary-Treasurer of the Baker Lake Hunters and Trappers Organization, Chairperson of the Baker Lake District Education Authority and a member of the Board of Directors of the Baker Lake Housing Association.
Mr. Mikkungwak has been an active volunteer in the fields of search and rescue and community radio. Mr. Mikkungwak’s personal interests include hunting, sports and music.
