Patterk (Patiq) Netser (Natsiq) was born and raised in Coral Harbour, Northwest Territories. As a young teenager, Mr. Netser operated a successful fishing and hunting business, selling his catch to the local co-op. He then went on to a 13-year career with the Northwest Territories Power Corporation, serving as plant operator, mechanic, electrician, lineman and janitor.

In 1989, the lure of local politics enticed him to run for Coral Harbour’s education council. Within a short period of time, Mr. Netser was elected vice-chair of the Kivalliq region’s education council. He also operated a successful private business for 15 years during this time.

In 2004, Mr. Netser ran in a byelection and was elected to Nunavut’s First Legislative Assembly. He was re-elected to the Second Legislative Assembly later that same year and held several different Cabinet portfolios during the term, including Housing, Economic Development and Transportation, Worker’s Compensation Board and Environment.

Mr. Netser then left territorial politics and served as Executive Assistant to the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq for six years. Ms. Aglukkaq was Nunavut’s Member of Parliament.

In 2017, Mr. Netser returned to territorial politics to serve constituents in the Aivilik riding and was elected to Cabinet in 2018 as Minister Responsible for the Nunavut Housing Corporation and Minister Responsible for Nunavut Arctic College.

Mr. Netser has been married to his wife Mona for 39 years. They have six children, 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
