Standing Committee Announces Schedule of Televised Hearings

IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 10, 2024) - The Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Oversight of Government Operations and Public Accounts will hold televised hearings from September 19-20, 2024, on the most recent territorial public accounts and from September 20-21, 2024, on the most recent annual reports of the Languages Commissioner of Nunavut.

Senior officials from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, the Office of the Languages Commissioner and the Government of Nunavut will appear as witnesses at the televised hearings.

“Our televised hearings will provide an opportunity for Members of the Legislative Assembly to consider the extent to which the Government of Nunavut is taking action to address recommendations made by these independent officers and the standing committee itself,” said Committee Chairperson George Hickes, MLA for Iqaluit-Tasiluk.

The standing committee’s televised hearings begin at 3:00pm in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, September 19, 2024. The hearings will be televised on local community cable stations and direct-to-home satellite service on the Bell (channel 513) and Shaw (channel 289 - classic / channel 489 - new lineup) networks.
