Order of Nunavut Investiture Ceremony to be held on February 28, 2017

IQALUIT, Nunavut (February 14, 2017) - Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Chairperson of the Order of Nunavut Advisory Council George Qulaut today announced that Mr. Louie Kamookak, Ms. Ellen Hamilton and Mr. Red Pedersen will be invested into the Order of Nunavut at a ceremony to be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at 7:00pm (EST) in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly.

2016 Speaker’s Youth Parliament to be Televised Live across Nunavut

IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 23, 2016) - The Honourable George Qulaut, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut, today announced that the 6th Speaker’s Youth Parliament will be televised live across the territory on local community cable stations and direct-to-home satellite service on the Bell (channel 513) and Shaw (channel 289 – classic / channel 489 – new lineup) networks.

Speaker’s Statement on the Passing of John Ningark

IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 17, 2016) - Speaker of the Legislative Assembly George Qulaut today issued the following statement:

“I am saddened today to learn of the passing of former Member John Ningark, who represented his constituents for many years with dignity and distinction. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family.”

The flags of the communities of Naujaat and Kugaaruk have been half-masted at the Legislative Assembly in his honour, as have the national and territorial flags.

Standing Committee Announces Schedule of Televised Hearings

IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 7, 2016) - The Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Independent Officers and Other Entities today announced the schedule for its upcoming televised hearings on the most recent annual reports of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and the Representative for Children and Youth. Both positions serve as independent officers of the Legislative Assembly.
