Invitation for Applications: Languages Commissioner of Nunavut

Applications are invited for the position of Languages Commissioner of Nunavut. This is a five-year, full-time statutory appointment. 

The Languages Commissioner is an Independent Officer of the Legislative Assembly. The office-holder is appointed on the recommendation of the Legislative Assembly, pursuant to the Official Languages Act. The position exercises a range of powers and responsibilities under the Official Languages Act and the Inuit Language Protection Act. The successful candidate will be an experienced senior manager who has a strong knowledge of official languages legislation, including national trends in the field of language rights. Professional experience must also include proven success in the areas of financial and human resources management. Candidates must be fluent in the Inuit Language and at least one other of Nunavut’s official languages. This appointment is restricted to Nunavut Inuit.

Applicants must clearly demonstrate how they meet the requirements and competencies set out in the Position Profile. The salary range for the position is $157,970 to $225,672 per annum. If the successful candidate is not a resident of Iqaluit at the time of appointment, relocation assistance will be provided. Subsidized staff housing is available.
