Legislative Assembly Recommends Appointment of Integrity Commissioner of Nunavut

IQALUIT, Nunavut (October 23, 2018) - The Legislative Assembly today approved a motion recommending that Ms. Katherine Peterson, Q.C., be appointed Integrity Commissioner of Nunavut. The motion was unanimously adopted by the House.

The territorial Integrity Act provides that the Integrity Commissioner holds office for a five-year term. Ms. Peterson’s appointment is effective immediately.

In June of this year, the Management and Services Board of the Legislative Assembly publicly invited applications for the position of Integrity Commissioner.

Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Joe Enook said, “Ms. Peterson is a senior and well-respected member of the Northern legal community whose career began four decades ago. Her extensive experience in a wide range of roles will serve her well in this important position.”

Speaker Enook added, “On behalf of my colleagues, I would also like to express our appreciation to the Honourable Ted Richard for his distinguished service as Integrity Commissioner over the past five years and wish him well in his retirement.”
