Invitation for Applications: Independent Commission to Review Members’ Indemnities, Allowances, Expenses and Benefits

The Legislative Assembly of Nunavut’s Management and Services Board has approved the establishment of an Independent Commission to Review Members’ Indemnities, Allowances, Expenses and Benefits.

Section 37 of the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act provides that the purpose of the commission is to “review and make recommendations to the Speaker regarding the indemnities, allowances, expenses and benefits to be paid to the Members of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut.”

The commission will be composed of not more than five members. The commission’s members are anticipated to be appointed in September of 2018. The commission’s final report is due to be submitted to the Speaker no later than March 31, 2019. The commission’s terms of reference provide that one of its mandates is to make recommendations concerning practical and cost-effective ways to support the work of Members of the Legislative Assembly who are raising young children.

In order to be considered for appointment to the commission, candidates must be of good character and have a demonstrated ability to analyze complex written information, including statutes, financial statements and related documentation. Fluency in the Inuit Language would be considered an asset.

Commission members will be compensated in accordance with the provisions of Section 810 of the Government of Nunavut’s Financial Administration Manual. Some travel within the territory may be required.

Applications will be accepted until 5:00pm (EST) on August 17, 2018. Applications and inquiries should be directed to:
