Nunavut Leadership Forum elects Speaker, Premier and Cabinet Ministers
IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 15, 2013) - Nunavut’s Speaker, Premier and Members of the Executive Council were chosen today by the Nunavut Leadership Forum. The Forum consists of all MLAs.
George Qulaut, MLA for Amittuq, was acclaimed as Speaker.
Peter Taptuna, MLA for Kugluktuk, was elected as Premier.
MLAs announce date and format of Nunavut Leadership Forum
IQALUIT, Nunavut (November 8, 2013) - The Legislative Assembly’s Caucus today announced the date and format for the 2013 Nunavut Leadership Forum. The Forum consists of all MLAs.
The Forum will be held in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly, beginning at 10:00am on Friday, November 15, 2013. The proceedings will be open to the public to observe from the Visitors’ Gallery. The proceedings will be televised live across Nunavut on the Legislative Assembly’s cable broadcast channel.
Order of Nunavut Investiture Ceremony to be held on September 12, 2013
IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 10, 2013) - Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Chairperson of the Order of Nunavut Advisory Council Hunter Tootoo today announced that Messrs. Jimmy Akavak, Louis Angalik, Sr. and Davidee Arnakak will be invested into the Order of Nunavut at a ceremony to be held on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at 5:00pm in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly.
The investiture ceremony will be open to the public to observe and will be televised live across Nunavut on the Legislative Assembly’s cable broadcast channel.
Legislative Assembly Recommends Appointment of New Integrity Commissioner of Nunavut
IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 9, 2013) - The Legislative Assembly today approved a motion recommending that the Honourable J.E. (Ted) Richard be appointed Integrity Commissioner of Nunavut. The motion was unanimously adopted by the House.
The territorial Integrity Act provides that the Integrity Commissioner holds office for a five-year term. The appointment of the present Integrity Commissioner expires on September 9, 2013. Mr. Richard’s appointment is effective September 10, 2013.
Nunavut and Northwest Territories Speakers Welcome CRTC Decision Concerning Mandatory Carriage of Legislative Proceedings
IQALUIT, Nunavut and YELLOWKNIFE, Northwest Territories (August 8, 2013) – Speakers Hunter Tootoo and Jackie Jacobson today welcomed the decision of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to require mandatory carriage of the legislatures’ televised proceedings on the digital basic service of the direct-to-home satellite broadcasting distribution undertakings serving Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.
