IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 20, 2020) - As a precautionary measure in response to the COVID-19 situation, access to the Legislative Building has been restricted.
 
Public tours and general visitor access to the Legislative Building have been suspended until further notice. Persons with appointments at the Legislative Assembly are advised to make appropriate advance arrangements to gain access to the facility. Standing Committee on Legislation Announces Next Steps in Consideration of Bill 25

IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 25, 2019) - The Standing Committee on Legislation today announced the next steps in its consideration of Bill 25, An Act to Amend the Education Act and the Inuit Language Protection Act. Bill 25 was introduced by the Minister of Education on June 4, 2019, and was subsequently referred to the standing committee for consideration.

Northwest Territories and Nunavut Speakers Mourn the Passing of Former MLA Ludy Pudluk

YELLOWKNIFE, Northwest Territories and IQALUIT, Nunavut (July 2, 2019) - Speakers Jackson Lafferty and Simeon Mikkungwak today mourn the passing of former MLA Ludy Pudluk, who passed away on Monday following a long illness.
 
Ludy Pudluk served as a Member of the Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly from 1975 to 1995. During his tenure in public office, Mr. Pudluk represented the communities of the High Arctic and was instrumental in the movement that led to the creation of Nunavut.
 

Legislative Assembly Recommends Appointment of Representative for Children and Youth

IQALUIT, Nunavut (June 6, 2019) - The Legislative Assembly today approved a motion recommending that Ms. Marilyn Jane Bates be appointed Nunavut’s new Representative for Children and Youth. The motion was unanimously adopted by the House.

The territorial Representative for Children and Youth Act provides that the Representative holds office for a five-year term. The appointment of Ms. Bates is effective July 22, 2019.
